Griffey Eye Care, the leading cataract surgery center in the region, is proud to announce it will begin offering the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens® (LAL) to cataract patients this month. Griffey Eye Care is the first practice in Chesapeake to provide this cutting-edge technology, revolutionizing the way cataract surgery outcomes are personalized.

The RxSight Light Adjustable Lens is the only intraocular lens implant that allows ophthalmologists to adjust a patient’s vision after cataract surgery, providing unparalleled precision and customization.

“By offering the Light Adjustable Lens, we can now provide our patients with even more accurate and tailored vision outcomes than ever before,” said Dr. Paul Griffey, a leading laser cataract surgeon at Griffey Eye Care. “We are always looking for ways to enhance the care we provide, and the LAL is a game-changing tool in achieving that goal.”

Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure in the United States, with roughly 50% of Americans developing cataracts by the age of 75. This percentage is expected to grow as life expectancy increases. Cataracts occur when the natural lens of the eye becomes clouded, leading to blurred or diminished vision.

During cataract surgery, the eye’s cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL). Until now, surgeons relied on pre-surgery measurements to estimate a patient’s post-operative vision correction. The RxSight Light Adjustable Lens changes the game by allowing for post-surgery adjustments, ensuring the most precise vision correction possible.

Studies show that patients who receive the LAL, along with the recommended post-surgery treatments, are more likely to achieve 20/20 vision or better without the need for glasses, compared to those with standard lens implants1. The LAL is made from a proprietary material that can be fine-tuned using the RxSight Light Delivery Device, which uses targeted ultraviolet light to adjust the lens to meet each patient’s specific vision needs.

“Because small variations in healing are common, the LAL allows us to fine-tune the lens for each patient’s unique eyes and lifestyle,” Dr. Griffey explained.  Griffey Eye Care has three convenient locations, two in Chesapeake and one in Virginia Beach. To schedule a cataract consultation, patients can call 1-888-873-9348.
